ENGLISH VERSION UNDER CONSTRUCTION Residencia de lectura conducida por María JerezInvestigation
Many artists complain about the lack of time to read books we would like to read. We associate this lack of time with the amount of work we take on to generate the necessary income for our livelihood.
Through a public call, we invite 4 artists who want to read those books for which they never have time. The residency provides economic compensation for this purpose. The reading will take place on the sofas, armchairs, and cushions of Pegaso, the headquarters of Dorothy Michaels, for one week, four hours a day, individually but accompanied by others, with simultaneous readings. Each person will read what they need and want. The invitation is to read a book from beginning to end or as far as we get, and if we finish it, start another one and so on.
This is not an invitation to research; it’s an invitation to read. To delve into reading without expecting anything in return. It can be books of any nature, books that you always wanted to read, books you opened a thousand times and never managed to continue, books you were gifted but haven't glanced at yet, books related to something that occupies you, or precisely those that, being foreign, you never "indulge" in reading. Books that you "have" to read for some reason but still haven't found the time to do so or random books.
At lunchtime, these readings will be shared through tools proposed by María Jerez, similar to how a family discusses their day at the dinner table. We will eat together, sharing those diverse texts, chewing on them, digesting them.
To allocate time and commitment to reading, this residency offers compensation of 500€ for each selected artist for the entire week.
