REMOLINO Investigación
Dorothy Michaels is spearheading this residency program within the framework of Especies en Extinción, a research project conducted by a collective of artists and researchers in Madrid. This project explores methods to sustain performing arts—not only by preserving performance pieces through traditional exhibition models but also by transforming them, translating them, narrating them, documenting them, mutating them, and passing them on from one body to another. Can we take on a collective responsibility and reflection to preserve performing arts? Through what strategies?
REMOLINO is a program of artistic residencies designed to test survival strategies amidst the ongoing threat of performing arts extinction. Through this initiative, we seek to challenge the prevailing machinery of performance production, which relentlessly churns out shows, often subject to fleeting consumption by an industry that swiftly discards them.
REMOLINO
aims to redefine our relationship with production itself. Rather than pursuing new productions, we aim to reevaluate and reconfigure existing pieces and materials, prompting reflection on their preservation, survival, extension, mutation, or conclusion.
REMOLINO entails a series of collaborative residencies that delve into various forms of production and collectivity as potent forces for change. Each selected artist will invite a collaborator to jointly explore issues of survival in the performing arts through an existing piece. Collaboration may span disciplines to foster reflection on conservation and/or the potential evolution of the piece into new forms: alternative practices, formats, or temporal dimensions.
